Smart Hijab Tip #2: Wedges

Source

My second smart hijab tip is about what has recently become my favourite type of shoe - the wedge. Wedges are great for both short and tall and I think that they instantly smarten and streamline any look.

As a general rule, I wouldn't wear open-toed or strappy wedges to work, it just doesn't look right. Also, make sure that the trousers almost (but don't quite) hit the ground.

Here's an outfit for some inspiration:

Wedges

Just be careful when you walk though.. I was getting the tube the other week and do you know when you think that the last step is actually the floor and your ankle twists in? Yeh that happened to me with a pair of wedges on.. I couldn't walk for a week :(

Aren't wedges and heels the same thing almost? And if heels that size arent allowed in mixed environments, I don't think these are either....

Huda: Wedges are easier to walk in and don't make the same stomping noise that heels do. Anyway why are heels not allowed in a mixed environment?

Salamo aleekom,
I agree with Huda, as I also believe that heels are not allowed, not only cause of the noise they make, but because they make our body move in a very attractive way. So I think these shoes would also make our body sway in attractive matter. But still in the end it's a woman's choice, as it's between her and God.

I was reading an article on ilovehishma and it provided evidence with hadees and ayats : http://ilovehishmatheblog.blogspot.com/2009/04/high-heels-can-negate-ones-hijab.html

Salam. I don't generally wear heels (more because I can't walk in them than anything else.) but I do have one pair of wedge boots that I wear in the winter time. I can't stand having the hems of my abayas or pants getting wet with snow or God knows what else, cause then I'm stuck in wet pants and abaya for too long!

Oooh, I like the blouse :)
I've never tried wedges myself though!

Huda: The one Hadith she's used is about the woman in the stilts and the reason that was apparently haram is because it makes people believe that she is tall when she's actually not. That is not this case with heels, people know that you aren't actually that tall.

Umm Knitters: Really? I stomp around in wedges and certainly don't walk more attractively. A woman can make her walk attractive without any shoes on at all.

Salam.

Not meaning to be rude or anything but how can people tell that you aren't that tall if your pants go almost to the floor?

Hudaa: Haha! I can tell when people are wearing heels even if I can't see them, can't you? Salam x

salaam sister-in-Islam,

personally I wouldn't encourage women to wear shoes with extremely high/thick heels as I think it is a form of deceiving. And you know that deceit is something that Allah does not like if that deceit is among Muslims. Allah knows best.

Wearing shoes with ultra high heels is like showing others that you're so tall when in reality you are not.

my name: Mariam Bint Omar Mababaya :) (I don't use facebook)

I've a question, are you Arab?

Arabic is a language as far as im concerned hehe. Im Arab and I never reply "Arabic".

Anon: I really don't get the point you're trying to make here. Referring to oneself as either "Arab" or "Arabic" are both perfectly correct phrases.

Google is your friend lol.
